Tips and tricks
Practice steering with a plate or a Frisbee
It may seem like a silly idea but using a plate or a Frisbee to practice steering is an excellent way to develop good hand control and smooth steering.
Imagine a horizontal centreline across the plate or Frisbee. Now turn it in both directions without letting either of your hands cross below the imaginary centreline.
Frisbees are available for purchase through 5 Stars Driver Training for $5 each.
Be aware of your blindspots
When turning, don't assume there's no one next to you. Do your shoulder checks and avoid hitting cyclists, motorcycles or any other vehicle that you may not have seen enter your blind spot.
Line up a teddy bear with the side of the road
Sit a teddy bear or a doll on the centre of your car's dashboard. As you're driving, line up the teddy with the side line of the road and you will naturally assume a good driving position within your lane.
